CONCEPT:
Condensed by design, Pilot is an informal jobbing typeface for short texts and striking display use—e.g., headlines, posters, book jackets, or packaging. The angular design and handmade character contributes to a slightly nostalgic feel reminiscent of sign-painter-style lettering. Latvian- born Aleksandra Samuļenkova started the design in 2012 during her studies in the Type & Media program at the KABK in The Hague. The result is a family of ten styles—five weights with corresponding italics. Bringing Pilot full circle, it is one of the very few contemporary typefaces that are also available as metal type.
