CONCEPT:
Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas, by the Brazilian writer Machado de Assis, was originally published in 1881. The novel is narrated by the dead protagonist Brás Cubas, who tells his own life story from beyond the grave, noting his mistakes and failed romances. The project took inspiration from the typography and ornaments encountered in gravestones. The illustrations were made by combining a small collection of type ornaments with woodcuts.
