CONCEPT:
A Fantástica Tipografia do Companheiro Matias (“The Fantastic Letterpress Shop of Our Fellow Matias”) is a book about the letterpress printer Ademir Matias. Working since 1955 at the same place, Matias is one of the last traditional printers in Brazil who still works only with letterpress. To honor his legacy, designers Olavo D’Aguiar and Gabriel Nascimento decided to make an experimental project using Matias’ quotes. “Anything with the height of a movable type can be printed,” he says. Stamps, vinyl discs, coffee mugs, hands, ink rollers, bubbles, tires, smoke, wood and metal types, and other materials were printed. Each book is unique, like every moment with Matias.
