​​The 2026 Type Directors Club Scholarships are now accepting applications. Our program awards annual, talent-based scholarships with an emphasis on need and diversity. The scholarships are available to qualified students worldwide who demonstrate exceptional skill in typography, design, and creative vision. Read the specific requirements below.

TDC Scholarship

Award: Five awards of $1,000 and four awards of $500

Eligibility: Undergraduate students worldwide entering their senior year (September 2026–May 2027)

The TDC Scholarship is a talent- and need-based award open to undergraduate students entering their final year. It recognizes students with strong typographic ability, creative vision, and financial need. Scholarship funds are applied directly to tuition in partnership with the student’s school registrar.

In addition to the monetary award, recipients will receive a one-year TDC Student membership and a copy of the most recent The World’s Best Typography®.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must be:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
  • Entering their senior year as of fall 2026
  • Studying at an accredited college, community college, or university anywhere in the world

The work should reflect exceptional talent, sophistication, and skill in typography, lettering, or type design.

Application Requirements

  • Completed application form here
  • A personal statement (approx. 250 words or under 1,000 characters)
  • Three type or design projects, each represented by up to five images, videos, or texts, along with a short explanatory paragraph (maximum of 15 images). 
  • Letters of recommendation (only required for second-round candidates. You will be contacted if this is necessary.)

Award Includes

  • $1,000 or $500 applied directly to tuition via your school's registrar (August 2026)
  • One-year TDC Student membership
  • A copy of the most recent “The World’s Best Typography®”

Scholarship recipients will be announced after the application review is complete.

Adé Hogue Scholarship

Adé Hogue Scholarship

Award: $5,000

Eligibility: BIPOC students entering in to their junior year of undergrad or first year of graduate/postgraduate study

The Adé Hogue Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Broderick “Adé” Hogue—a beloved Chicago-based art director and letterer. Sponsored by Monotype and established in partnership with the Broderick Adé Hogue Foundation, this $5,000 scholarship supports emerging BIPOC creatives who show promise in type design, lettering, calligraphy, or type-focused graphic design.

In addition to the financial award, the recipient will receive a one-year TDC Student membership and a copy of the most recent The World’s Best Typography®.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must be:

  • A BIPOC student
  • Entering in to their junior year of an undergraduate program, or
  • Into their first year of a graduate or postgraduate program
  • Studying at an accredited college, community college, or university anywhere in the world

The work should demonstrate exceptional talent and creative potential in the letterform arts.

Eligibility: Women and nonbinary students worldwide, currently enrolled in undergraduate design programs

The Beatrice Warde Scholarship is named in honor of Beatrice Warde, a pioneering typographic communicator and advocate for the power of clear design. Sponsored by Monotype, this $5,000 scholarship recognizes a woman or nonbinary individual whose work demonstrates a commitment to to show strong work centered around typography, type design, lettering, editorial design, or related communication fields

In addition to the financial award, the recipient will receive a one-year TDC Student membership and a copy of the most recent The World’s Best Typography®.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must be:

  • A woman or nonbinary design student
  • Entering in to their junior year in design, in an educational institution anywhere in the world
  • Able to show strong work centered around typography, type design, lettering, editorial design, or related communication fields

  • Three samples of work, each represented by up to five images, videos, or texts, along with a short explanatory paragraph
  • Letters of recommendation (only required for second-round candidates. You will be alerted if this is needed)
