Matteo Bologna, President of the Type Directors Club, announces the call for entries for the world’s most prestigious typography competitions, the sixty-first annual Type Directors Club Communication Design Competition (TDC61) and the eighteenth annual TDC Typeface Design Competition (TDC 2015). The highly selective TDC competitions will choose the most innovative, smart, and beautiful typographic work designed in 2014.

The deadline for both the competitions is Friday, December 12, 2014.

TDC61 is chaired by Doug Clouse (The Graphics Office). The judges are:
Chelsea Cardinal (GQ, New York)
John Gall (Abrams Books, New York)
Geray Gencer (Istanbul)
Pum Lefebure (Design Army, Washington, DC)
Mike Rigby (R/GA, New York)
Alisa Wolfson (Leo Burnett, Chicago)
Garson Yu (yU+co, Los Angeles)

TDC 2015 is chaired by Roberto de Vicq (de Vicq Design). His judges are:
Claudia de Almeida (formerly Wired, San Francisco)
Paul Barnes (Commercial Type, London)
Dino Dos Santos (DST, Portugal)
Tal Leming (Type Supply, Maryland)

The winning work will appear in the Type Directors Club annual, Typography 36, designed by Abbott Miller of Pentagram and available in bookstores in 2015. Abbott Miller, who is also designing the competition materials, says of this year’s design:
“Typography has reached a new level of abstraction, untethered to fixed or physical media. As we encounter the eerie weightlessness and lack of certainty about design and typography, we return to the fundamentals of form, space, line, and motion.

The winning entries will be exhibited in seven traveling shows beginning in the summer of 2015 in New York City. Besides touring the United States and Canada, the exhibitions will visit countries and cities worldwide, including Seoul, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Taipei, London, Spain, France, Germany, Japan, and Russia, and will appear in Sao Paulo during ATypI 2015.
