- quill (n: kwIl)
A pen made from a wing feather of a bird, often a goose or a crow. Trimmed to a point or edge and then dipped into ink, it was a popular writing instrument until metal nibs were invented.
- quoin (n: koin)
A device used in metal typesetting to tighten and secure blocks of type in the chase. Two toothed wedges are slid by a key to increase or decrease the distance between the outer edges of the wedges, thus pushing the furniture tighter or looser around the type.
