P (n: pi)

The sixteenth letter of the Latin-based script.

The seventeenth letter of the Greek-based script; Rho.

The seventeenth etter of the Cyrillic-based script; Er.

padding (n: 'p&d IN)

In CSS, the interior space between content and displayable background edge.

Extra content added to extend a paper, article, or other text to fill out an alotted space.

paragraph (n: 'p& r@ gr&f)

A generally short text that expresses a complete set of thoughts. Paragraphs can be set off by indents at the first line, or by an extra blank line before.

paragraph mark (n: 'p& r@ gr&f mArk)

The reversed-P-like symbol (¶ ¶) used to indicate that a new paragraph should begin at the mark. It is used by editors to mark text for typesetting, and occasionally by designers to maintain a solid block of paragraphed text. Also called "pilcrow."

petite capitals (n: pE 'tit 'k& pI t@lz)

Small capitals that are the height of the lowercase of the typeface family.

pi font (n: pAi fAnt)

A font of shapes that includes odd characters, mathematical symbols, or ornaments.

Postscript Type 1 (n: 'post skrIpt tAip wVn)

A typeface font format that uses cubic Bezier curves to describe the curves and lines of a glyph. Largely superceded by OpenType fonts that can contain Postscript-like font outline descriptions as well as complex behaviors for glyphs.

pullquote (n: pVl kwot)

A portion of a text, usually a sentence or less, that is set large and placed in a separate area in or near the main text from which it is taken. Pullquotes serve as a means of drawing the reader's interest to the main text by displaying a main thought in a form that is easily read at a glance.
