G (n: dZi)

The seventh letter of the Latin-based script.

gain (m: gein)

The effect, usually of a halftone dot (dot gain), in which ink spreads beyond the edge of an element on a lithographic printing plate, thereby making the area slightly darker or heavier.

glyph (n: glIf)

A physical representation of a character or figure; the design of a character as a particular shape within a type design. Characters (such as aeiou or àéîøü) that are given a specific design as opposed to their asbstract concept.

Greek (n/v: grik)

The script used to write the Greek language and some mathematics. The Greek language can be written in two separate styles: polytonic, with several tone and aspiration marks, and monotonic, with only one tone mark; the alphabetic letters are basically identical.

To make a drawing of a text layout using only lines to represent the text; there are no letters in a greeked text.

gutter (n: 'gV* @r)

The space in a book or magazine where two leaves come together, in the center, at the spine of the book. The paper surface is best kept free of text as the surface is often too curved for easy reading.

The interior margin between two blocks of text.
