Talk by Pat Schleger, marking the publication by Lund
Humphries of her book of the same title.
Tuesday, 8 May 2001, 6:45 pm
Hans Schleger was a key figure in the history of design. Born in Germany,
into a Jewish family at the end of the nineteenth century, Schleger began
his career in Berlin.
In 1924 he went to New York and was one of a handful
of European émigré artists who brought the Modernist approach to American
advertising.
Returning to Berlin in 1929, he worked for an English
advertising agency, emigrating to England in 1933, and working in London
until his death in 1976.
