
The best way to learn about type is to actually work with it! This hands-on workshop focuses on applying the principles and aesthetics of fine typography as covered in the original Gourmet Typography Workshop, as well as in Type Rules! The Designers Guide to Professional Typography, by Ilene Strizver.

Using pre-assigned, type-intensive design projects, as well as attendee's own selected work, this workshop will consist of intensive critiques of original and revised work (work done in class), emphasizing how to apply the principles of fine typography in actual projects. This workshop provides the best kind of learning, that is, individual, customized attention coupled with group critiques.
Attendance at a prior Gourmet Typography Workshop, or familiarity withType Rules! The Designers Guide to Professional Typography, by Ilene Strizver, highly recommended.
Laptop required, as all revisions will be done in class.
Workshop projects pre-assigned; printouts required at time of workshop.
Ilene Strizver, founder of The Type Studio, is a typographic consultant, designer, writer and educator specializing in all aspect of visual communication, from the æsthetic to the technical. Ilene formerly was the Director of Typeface Development for International Typeface Corporation (ITC) where she developed more than 300 notable text and display typefaces. Her recent book, Type Rules! The Designers Guide to Professional Typography, has received numerous accolades from the type and design community.
