The Talk :

Get Wet, Tune Out...Proceed. It's the title of an unpublished book that the dept. made this year.

Get Wet, Tune Out...Proceed is a poem, a film, a soundtrack, a story of a year. Narratives interweave through image and word to build an expanding universe contained in a moment.

It's 9x12, 4 color, 368 pages of photo and type montages with accompanying texts.

Phil Kelly
Born and educated in New Zealand, Philip's creative output encompasses graphic design, typography, photography, sculpture and music. He spent his first ten years in NZ earning a living designing graphics for fine arts, theatre and music, before entering advertising with Saatchi & Saatchi, New Zealand in 1995.

In 1998, Philip moved to New York and joined J. Walter Thompson as Type Director. He was also in-house designer for independent NY record label Statra Recordings from 1998 to 2003. In 2002 he became Creative Director for thompsondesign at JWT New York.

His original typefaces and type experiments have graced the pages of Rolling Stone Magazine, Paper Magazine and the 2004 Graphis Design Annual. His type and design direction has been seen in design and advertising publications and has garnered numerous awards.

Throughout 2001 Philip worked as design consultant on the monograph of acclaimed design studio Socio X, entitled 'EXHIBITION'. He drew custom type and designed type treatments for the book as well as consulting on the overall design. It was published by Graphis Books in Winter 2002. The thompsondesign portfolio was included in the 2005 Graphis Brochures Annual. His photography has been exhibited in New York and New Zealand. He received a gold pencil at the 2005 One Show as a photographic contributor to Big magazine's Detroit issue.

Philip currently freelances as a designer and photographer.
