One Friday 2007 : Biodiversity

The theme for this year's event is "biodiversity" and the aim of the organisers is to showcase a range of designers and disciplines that reflect the diversity of work taking place in the field of graphic design today.

Dates :

Friday 23 February 2007

Venue :

Conway Hall
Holborn
Central London

The Speakers :

Speakers confirmed for One Friday are Rich Roat (House Industries, USA), René Knip (Atelier René Knip, Netherlands) and Daniel Eatock (Eatock Ltd, UK). Clive Bruton of INDX, who is heading the organisation of the event, said of the speakers "I've seen Rich and René speak at other events, and each time they've inspired me to think more critically about my own work — with Daniel you only need to take a look through his web site and portfolio to get an idea that he is someone that is also going to challenge the way other designers think".

At least three further speakers will be announced for the event over the next few weeks.

Rich Roat House Industries
Rich is joint founder of House Industries, along with Andy Cruz. Known throughout the world as a prolific type foundry, House Industries has made a considerable impact on the world of design. House Industries fonts scream from billboards, wish happy whatever from tens of thousands of greeting cards, serve as the basis for consumer product logos and add elements of style to a wide range of mainstream media. In their illustrious career, House artists have mastered a large cross-section of design disciplines. Their typography, illustration and design deftly melds cultural, musical and graphic elements. From early forays into distressed digital type to collaborations with acclaimed modernist architects Richard and Dion Neutra, House Industries' work transcends the conventional idea of "graphic design" and reaches out to a broad audience. What ultimately shines in the House Industries oeuvre is what always conquers mediocrity: a genuine love for their subject matter. Be it hot rods or Swiss Modernism, House continues to create heroes in this age of the lowest aesthetic common denominator.
René Knip Atelier René Knip
René is founder of Atelier René Knip and partner in Gebr.Knip (the Knip Brothers), based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Knip's work encompasses graphics and three dimensional work.
Daniel Eatock Eatock.com
Daniel Eatock is a graduate of Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication and the Royal College of Art. He worked as an intern at the Walker Art Centre in Minneapolis before establishing Foundation 33, a multidisciplinary practice that later merged with creative agency boymeetsgirl. He recently formed Eatock Ltd., an independent art and design studio where his inventive entrepreneurial approach to authorship and his adherence to the integrity of ideas are applied to commercial design work and contemporary art projects. His varied portfolio includes the creation of the world's largest signed and numbered limited edition artwork and the ongoing design and development of the Big Brother identity for Channel 4 television.
