“It was like changing the tires of a moving car,” so says Barbara deWilde, design director of Martha Stewart Living magazine, of the process of commissioning two new typefaces for the magazine’s redesign. The engineers of the project, Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones, created two magnificent, original fonts, Archer and Surveyor. Come hear about their process—from the nuts and bolts history, to the gravure printing, to what it feels like to drive this new luxury auto.
