The Mysteries of Cyrillic :
Its Features. Its Properties. Its Quirks.
Maxim Zhukov
Cyrillic... Whazzat?! It looks familiar, and yet so different. How different it really is? And in what way? Yes, it's got that 'inverted R' thing. And it all looks like caps and small caps anyway. Look ma, no lower case. How do you get to design a Cyrillic font, now when they all ask for it? Do you have to be Russian? Yikes. It's all Greek to me (shucks, they are asking for the Greek too)... Unicode schmunicode.
Hang in there! Help is on the way. Maxim Zhukov's presentation will highlight those tricky special features and secret relationships of letter-forms that have to be kept in mind when designing a Cyrillic typeface.
