The Doves Press :
The Doves Press was a leader in the revival of the art and craft of making books that occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was founded in London by T. J. Cobden-Sanderson and Emery Walker in 1900. The masterpiece of the Doves Press was the Doves Bible (1903). The Doves type, inspired by type used by Nicolas Jenson in the 15th century, was designed by Emery Walker. The work of the press ended in 1916.
Marianne's lecture is based on her forthcoming book on the Doves Press that is to be published by The British Library in December 2002. The lecture will be fully illustrated with slides.
Marianne is a former librarian and noted bookbinding historian. She is the author of a two-volume edition of the life and work of Cobden Sanderson.
