AIGA Miami Face Off For Literacy

23 January 2002

As Secretary for AIGA Miami (the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Miami Chapter), I am organizing an event on typography to help raise funds for literacy advocacy.

Entitled "AIGA Miami Face Off For Literacy," the project centers on the notion that typography is as highly personal as language and art. Since letters are the individual units of language, their structure and usage is an essential part of personal expression.

Show us the "face" behind the "faces" we use everyday and take a stand to "Face Off" for literacy! You are invited, along with other leading typographers and designers, to create a self-portrait in any style, any medium -- however you interpret "self-portrait." The only stipulation is that one specific letter of the alphabet must be a prominent element in the piece so that, when all the portraits are exhibited together, the entire alphabet will be represented. The works will be exhibited and auctioned and a catalog, portfolio of prints, a series of cards and other Face Off for Literacy products will be sold. Partial proceeds from the sales go to literacy programs.

Take this opportunity NOW to show that you care about literacy!

If you are interested in contributing a self portrait please go to our website at :
http://www.aigamiami.org/FaceOff/home.html
and fill out the online registration form.

Letters are waiting to be "adopted." Adopt a letter NOW! (The entire alphabet must be represented before duplicate letters will be adopted)

AIGA Miami Secretary and AIGA Miami Face Off for Literacy Program Chair
