Joint meeting of TDC and APHA (American Printing History Association) with Doug Clouse and Angela Voulangas
This illustrated talk presents the unique opportunity to explore MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan, the largest and most influential American type foundry of the nineteenth century, and the ingenious eccentricities of Artistic Printing, the movement that challenged the limitations of letterpress printing.
Angela Voulangas and Doug Clouse are the authors and designers of The Handy Book of Artistic Printing: A Collection of Letterpress Examples with Specimens of Type, Ornament, Corner Fills, Borders, Twisters, Wrinklers, and other Freaks of Fancy (Princeton Architectural Press, May 2009). Doug Clouse is also the author of Mackellar, Smiths & Jordan: Typographic Tastemaker of the Late Nineteenth Century (Oak Knoll Press, 2008).
This event is free and held at The Grolier Club, 47 East 60th Street.
